TEHRAN (IQNA) – A funeral was held Friday for Sheikh Najib Zahran Faraj, the most renowned Qaris in Egypt’s Asyut Governorate.

According to al-Tahrir website, scholars, prayer leaders, Quran activists and hundreds of ordinary people took part in the funeral held in the city of al-Qusiyyah.

Sheikh Najib died earlier this week at the age of 100 after years of illness.

He spent almost 80 years of his life teaching Quran recitation and memorization.

His students ranged in age from young children to old people.

Egypt has introduced some of the most prominent Quran reciters to the Muslim world in the past decades.

Some of them, like Abdul Basit Abdus Samad, Muhammad Shahhat Anwar, Mustafa Ismail, Mahmood Sidiq Minshawi, Abdul Fattah Sha’shaei and Abolainain Shoaisha have been praised for their Quran recitation skills by Muslims worldwide and even by non-Muslims.
