Daesh Ringleader Killed in Iraq’s Diyala
The PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, said Osama Ali nassir al-Mahdawi, known as Abu Juhail, was killed in an operation north of Miqdadiyah, Mawazin News reported.
Talib Al-Musawi, commander of the PMU’s 24th Brigade, said units from the brigade planned and carried out the operation.
He added that the terrorist was behind the murder of a number of triable figures in the region and a bomb blast in a conference hall in Miqdadiyah.
Al-Musawi said Abu Juhail was also involved in bringing suicide bombers to the city.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh by reclaiming all of its territory – about a third of the country’s area – invaded by the terrorist group in 2014.
However, the terrorist group still maintains sleeper cells in some areas of Iraq and periodically launches attacks.
The Iraqi army and popular forces continue to carry out frequent operations against the terror group in these parts of the country.
