In a letter addressed to the scholars of the Muslim world, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki congratulated them on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and urged them to take part in the International Quds Day programs.
In the letter, Ayatollah Araki referred to the issue of Palestine as the cause of the Muslim Ummah and a basis of Islamic unity.
He underlined that terrorism and ISIL crimes in Iraq and Syria, the regrettable situation in Yemen and conflicts in the Muslim countries should not lead to forgetting the issue of Palestine.
The senior cleric expressed hope that Islamic unity will be once again manifested in this year’s Quds day rallies.
Imam Khomeini (RA), the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in August 1979 declared the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day, calling on Muslims across the world to mark the annual occasion by holding street rallies.
Since then, millions of people around the world take to the streets on this day in a show of support for the people of Palestine, demanding an end to the Zionist regime's occupation of Palestinian lands.
This year, the International Quds Day falls on Friday, July 10.
