Iranian Official Attends Friday Prayers in Kabul, Calls for Ensuring Security

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s deputy ambassador to Afghanistan attended the Friday prayers of Shia Muslims in western Kabul yesterday.

In remarks after the prayer, Seyed Hassan Mortazavi highlighted the need for the interim government in Afghanistan to ensure the security of the Afghan people.

He said this has been discussed with the Kabul government in a recent visit by the special representative of the Iranian president.

Mortazavi added that the interim government with the assistance of local people is striving to counter threats and safeguard place of worship and religious rituals like Friday prayers.  

The official underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to support the Afghan people and strive to help them achieve peace and security.

Earlier this week, – Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan made it clear that under no circumstances will the Islamic Republic abandon the Afghan people.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi traveled to Kabul to meet with Taliban officials, including the acting minister of foreign affairs of the Taliban, Amir Khan Muttaqi.

In the meetings, Kazemi Qomi said Iran will not forsake the people of Afghanistan under any conditions.

He also highlighted the age-old and strong historical relations between Iran and Afghanistan.
