Leader Offers Condolences on Senior Iranian Cleric’s Death

IQNA – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei expressed condolences on the death of Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, a member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

In a message on Sunday, the Leader described Ayatollah Emami Kashani as a pious and dedicated scholar who served the country and the Islamic Republic’s establishment over the years, both before and after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, in such sensitive positions as the Assembly of Experts, the Guardian Council, and the interim Friday prayer leader of Tehran.

The Leader offered condolences to the family of the late cleric, his students and scholars of seminary schools, prayed for divine mercy and forgiveness for the deceased.

Ayatollah Emami Kashani died of cardiac arrest in his home on Saturday.

Born in 1931 in Iran’s central city of Kashan, Emami Kashani studied religious sciences and Arabic literature in his hometown before leaving for Qom to continue his studies at the holy city’s Islamic seminary.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, he served in many posts including member of parliament, member of Assembly of Experts, cleric member of the Guardian Council, and custodian of Shahid Motahhari School of Higher Education.

He also served as the interim Friday prayer leader of Tehran for 37 years.
