TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian parliamentarians condemned the French president’s support for publication of cartoons insulting the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

In a statement released during an open session of the parliament on Monday, the lawmakers said the French government showed its true color by endorsing desecration of Islamic sanctities.

They described such conducts that are made in the name of freedom of expression as the biggest injustice done to freedom of expression.

The statement said such insulting actions in France are aimed at slowing down the growing trend among French people to move toward Islam.

“We, the representatives of the faithful and proud nation of Iran, along with the world’s monotheists, justice-seekers, and Muslims,” strongly condemn the act of desecration and Islamophobic remarks by the French president, the statement added.

Calls are growing around the world for people to boycott French goods in the wake of President Emmanuel Macron’s comments accusing Muslims of separatism and his pledge not to give up the insulting cartoons depicting the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
