Al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) was assassinated along with then commander of the IRGC Quds Force Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and their companions.
They were martyred in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassinations, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of then US president Donald Trump.
At the online ceremony, Iraqi social media users hailed the sacrifices made by the martyrs of resistance.
They also underlined their role in fighting the Daesh terrorist group.
One of them described Martyr al-Muhandis as the best commander and a great hero who led the fighters of resistance to victory.
Another one described the martyred commander as the father of all Iraqi resistance fighters.
