Workshop Discusses ASEAN Halal Standard Guidelines
The guidelines were discussed during the working group on ASEAN Halal Food meeting on July 18.
The working group has been established to facilitate alignment of halal standards to meet increasing demand for halal food and services that can be trusted and guaranteed, in addition to ensuring that the Muslim community feels safe consuming Halal food products.
Halal refers to things or actions which are permissible to use or engage in according to Sharia (Islamic law).
ASEAN, officially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is a political and economic union of 10 member states in Southeast Asia, which promotes intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration between its members and countries in the Asia-Pacific.
