Iran Ready to Contribute to Promotion of Quranic Activities in Thailand

IQNA – An Iranian deputy culture minister voiced the country’s readiness to cooperate in the promotion of Quranic activities in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

Ali Reza Moaf, the Quran and Etrat deputy of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, attended a meeting of directors of Thailand’s Quranic institutes on Wednesday.

It was held at the Iranian Cultural Center in Bangkok. Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Thailand welcomed the participants at the meeting and presented a report about Quranic education in the Southeast Asian country.

He also said there are plans for founding a Dar-ol-Quran center to develop Quranic activities in the country.

Three women active in Quranic education in Bangkok as well as Quran activists from south of Thailand also talked about their activities in promoting Quranic teachings and education.

Moaf then took the podium hailing the efforts of the Quran activists in a non-Muslim country as valuable work.

He also referred to the recent onslaughts against the sanctity of the Quran and said efforts should be made to introduce the beauties of the Holy Book to people.

Iran Ready to Contribute to Promotion of Quranic Activities in Thailand

The Iranian official further expressed readiness to dispatch Quran experts and organize Quranic courses in Thailand and support new Quranic plans and initiatives.

On Tuesday, Moaf attended the inauguration ceremony in the Thai capital of an exhibition featuring Quranic artworks and products from Iran.

The exhibition will run through February 11, 2024.

Thailand is a country at the center of the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia.

Muslims are the second largest religious group in Thailand making up about five percent of the country’s 70 million population.

Islam was first introduced to the Thai people by Sheikh Ahmad Qomi.

He was an Iranian Shia Muslim who promoted Islam in Thailand in the 16th century AD and became the country’s first Sheikh-ul-Islam.
